New flood insurance deal announced – Uswitch.com comments
In response to today’s announcement that the Government and insurance industry have agreed a deal to guarantee affordable flood insurance, Michael Ossei, personal finance expert at** Uswitch.com, says:** “This will be an enormous relief to the hundreds of thousands of homeowners who were facing an uncertain summer, unsure if their home insurance premiums were about to shoot up.
“Up until now, those at risk of flood damage have had a long and nervous wait. Today’s deal means they will no longer have to worry about being uninsurable. Not only will Defra provide additional financial support for flood defenses, the cost of home insurance premiums will remain affordable, which is vital at a time when consumers are counting every penny.
“If your home is at risk from flooding it’s a good idea to have contents as well as buildings insurance. You can often save money by taking both policies from the same provider and taking it out online – but make sure that you read the full details of the policy, including the small print, before you sign up. You should also keep safe any photos, receipts, bank statements and credit card bills that document your home contents, as water damage can erode any identification or labeling on the items themselves.”
