Uswitch comments on SSE’s expected profits

In a trading statement today, SSE has announced that it expects an increase in profits ahead of its full year results. The news comes following a price hike at the end of last year and the supplier delaying passing on levy reductions to bills until March.

Claire Osborne, energy expert at Uswitch.com, comments: “This will come as a shock to customers who have been told they must wait until the end of March for their prices to be cut in line with the Government’s levy reductions.

“SSE, like all suppliers, needs to make a profit, but announcing this while consumers are struggling through this winter with higher fuel costs is going to be like waving a red rag at a bull. Switching levels have increased massively this winter off the back of consumer discontent over prices. I would urge anyone who is unhappy to start shopping around now for a better deal.”

According to Uswitch.com, the average household energy bill will have rocketed by £792 or 168%, from £472 a year in 2004 to £1,264 a year by this March.
