Ofcom reveals sharp spike in complaints over nuisance calls

Commenting on the latest figures on nuisance calls release by Ofcom today, Marie-Louise Abretti, telecoms expert at Uswitch.com says: “Complaints to Ofcom around abandoned and silent calls – which can be incredibly distressing to recipients – have risen 55% between March and April, while complaints to the Telephone Preference Service about unwanted marketing calls rose 43% in the same period.

“Nuisance calls are such a hot topic right now that it’s likely this sharp spike is down to the fact people are more clued up on the official complaints procedures.

“Plus, the Information Commissioner’s Office is making an example of companies that flout the law, and making sure everyone knows about it – which all helps to raise awareness.

“But the fight is far from over. If we’re to wipe out nuisance calls and texts once and for all, we need strength in numbers. The more people lodge complains, the faster this will happen.

“Keep the pressure on by forwarding spam texts to 7726, registering your number with the TPS to opt out of marketing calls, lodging complaints about abandoned and silent calls with Ofcom, and the ICO for unwanted sales calls.”
