Co-operative Energy launches cheapest deal on the market

Co-operative Energy has become the latest energy supplier to announce the launch of a tariff below £1,000. Its ‘Fair and Square’ plan is now the cheapest on the market at £989 but a number of conditions apply.

Tom Lyon, energy expert at Uswitch.com, says: “There are now three plans under £1,000, with Co-operative Energy’s new ‘Fair and Square’ plan taking top spot on price. But – unlike other tariffs – this deal requires you to send in quarterly meter readings, otherwise you could be automatically moved to Co-operative Energy’s standard tariff at £1,176 – a hefty £187 difference.

“To qualify, customers must also be signed up for both gas and electricity, pay by direct debit and access their billing information through the internet.

“This is a cheap deal but prospective customers will need to be willing to take regular meter readings and manage their account online, or risk being moved to a much more expensive tariff.”

Based on a medium user consuming 3,200 kWh of electricity and 13,500 kWh of gas on a dual fuel tariff, paying by monthly direct debit, with bill sizes averaged across all regions.
