National Grid prediction could push up consumer energy bills to over £2,000 by 2035, says Uswitch.com

Commenting on National Grid’s report ‘Exploring the future of UK energy’, which suggests that wholesale electricity costs could double and wholesale gas costs could increase by 43% by 2035, Uswitch.com energy expert, Tom Lyon, says: “We could see average energy bills soaring from £1,265 today to around £2,125 by 2030 under National Grid’s ‘high case’ scenario. With hard-pressed consumers already feeling the strain of high energy costs, today’s report should be a wake up call for the Government to put affordability at the heart of future energy policy.”

= increase of 68% on separate gas and electricity

Total bill using dual fuel payment on receipt
2014 = £1265 x 68% = £2126.71 in 2035
