A report published today by Citigroup suggests that the big six energy firms could lose a quarter of their customers by 2020. The report also predicts that the average duel fuel bill could be 20% higher by the same year. Commenting on the report Ann Robinson, Director of Consumer Policy at Uswitch.com, says: “This report is a wake-up call to the big six. Consumers are voting with their feet and choosing suppliers who offer competitive prices and good customer service, so it’s little wonder that newer entrants are expected to go from strength to strength.
“We are calling on Ofgem to make sure its recent reforms to increase competition and customer engagement with the industry are working – and not wait for the outcome of the Competition and Markets Authority review.
“It’s alarming that a further 20% could be added to the average bill by 2020. Consumers should take control of their bills now and check to see if they’re on the most competitive tariff. Most people who switch save, on average, £200 a year.”
