The Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) has today launched a campaign to highlight the benefits of switching energy supplier, after publishing new figures showing that 13.5 million households are missing out on savings of £2.7 billion by remaining with their existing provider.
Commenting on the announcement, Uswitch.com energy expert, Emma Bush**, says**: “With a difference of well over £300 between the average big six supplier standard tariff and the cheapest deal, millions of consumers are paying over the odds for their energy.
“DECC’s campaign to encourage households to shop around is to be welcomed. If more of us switched from expensive standard tariffs to cheaper deals, suppliers would work harder to attract and retain customers with lower prices and better customer service. This is why we have called on the Competition and Markets Authority to look at how to increase levels of consumer engagement in the market, as an essential way to boost competition and reduce bills.”
