Following the launch of the new Sky Q box today, Ewan Taylor Gibson, TV expert at Uswitch.com says: “The TV market is more competitive than ever. Cheap streaming deals and cut-price packages mean people have fewer reasons to stay loyal to providers – and the Sky Q box may struggle to keep Sky ahead of the game if it’s not priced right.
“It does deliver in creating a wireless TV ecosystem and it has enough bells and whistles to genuinely excite. Streamlining the customer experience with multi-room viewing, plus the ability to watch and access recorded content on multiple devices from anywhere, will make life easier for telly fans.
“Using the box as a supercharged WiFi hotspot is an intuitive way of boosting your Sky broadband connection, whilst accessing a wider range of entertainment, such as YouTube and Vevo, is playing catch-up with functionality which is already available on streaming boxes like Apple TV.
“However, all these features will likely come at an extra cost. We already pay an average of £24 a month on our TV, so we will have to wait and see whether customers are willing to fork out additional cash for a range of fancy, yet intuitive, TV features.”
