Uswitch comments on Ofcom’s reports on the coverage of UK communications services

Commenting on Ofcom’s reports on the coverage of UK communications services, Ewan Taylor-Gibson, broadband expert at Uswitch.com says: “The unlucky 5% still living in the internet dark ages are watching the digital divide grow ever wider, as more and more of those who can access superfast services leave them behind. “Future-proofing is vital, but we’ve long been trying to run before we can walk.

“You only have to look at Ofcom’s broadband coverage map to see the stark divide between England and the rest of the UK – most of the 1.4million UK homes and offices that can’t get speeds of 10Mbps are in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

“Ofcom has laid out three possible universal service offerings – the superfast option costing £0.9bn more than a standard 10Mbps service would be the sensible option if we want to safeguard our digital future.”
