Four lenses are better than one for latest Samsung smartphone

Ru Bhikha, mobiles expert at Uswitch.com, says: “After the performance of their flagship tracked slightly behind expectations, the Korean manufacturer is doubling down on a bid for growth in the lucrative mid-range sector with the Galaxy A9.

“The A9 is a solidly-designed, well-performing smartphone with one – or should we say four – features that separates it from sharp-elbowed competitors.

“The latest Galaxy sports four rear camera lenses, offering low light versatility, good command of depth of field and the ability to capture ultra-wide-angle shots.

“The Korean manufacturer prides itself on first-to-market features, so it will be interesting to see how this unique flourish lands with a nation of increasingly snap-happy mobile users.

“Samsung’s A series also tends to be a testbed for new features, so this heavy camera focus could well provide a glimpse at what the Galaxy S has in store next.

“The handset is also £200 cheaper than Apple’s recent ‘affordable’ handset, the iPhone XR. This is important – mobile users are less fixated on upgrading to the latest handset for the sake of it. Greater affordability allows users to buy handsets outright and pair them with cost-effective SIM-only contracts, handing more flexibility to customers who are fed up being tied into contracts for 24 months.

“Samsung’s latest effort undoubtedly buys into this freedom-seeking segment who don’t want to compromise on the performance or design of their smartphone.”
