Electricity switching increases 15% year on year – Uswitch comments

Commenting on the news from Energy UK that electricity switches increased 15% year-on-year in August 2019, Uswitch.com energy expert Rik Smith said:

“Households across the country aren’t being duped by the energy price cap, and have been taking advantage of low prices and cheap deals all summer. It could be another record-breaking year for energy switching, which means more and more people will have moved off poor-value Standard Variable Tariffs – meaning energy companies can’t rely on those customers to keep paying the highest prices.

“But it’s particularly important that, as we head towards winter, consumers think about moving to a fixed deal. Wholesale costs have been volatile recently, which means energy plans could start to become more expensive. Some suppliers have already withdrawn their cheapest deals, but households can lock in the rate they pay now and not have to worry about prices changing for the next 12 months.”
