Richard Neudegg, head of regulation at Uswitch.com comments: “Ofgem’s proposals build on its recent strengthening of new supplier entry rules, and are a good next step towards ensuring consumers stay confident that their supplier will deliver a decent level of customer service with also a level of financial soundness.
“Competition from new providers has been a really important part of getting consumers access to strong pricing and good customer service. But with a record 24 energy firms going bust in 2019, and the upheaval due to Covid-19, it is right to ensure the rules for suppliers are robust enough.
“As always, the devil is in the detail, and we will be looking closely at the specifics of these plans as part of the consultation.”
