Uswitch comment on Ofcom's investigation into BT

Following today's announcement from Ofcom that it has opened an investigation into BT’s compliance with its obligations as a broadband universal service provider, Richard Neudegg, head of regulation at Uswitch.com, says

“The Universal Service Obligation remains an important mechanism for Ofcom in the fight to alleviate Britain’s ‘digital divide’, ensuring that those struggling in rural areas have a chance to access a workable broadband connection.

“At a time when consumers are increasingly reliant on their broadband whether it’s for running an online business or video-calling loved ones, it’s not unreasonable for people to expect a decent connection and shouldn’t have to put up with either slow or unreliable speeds.”
