Uswitch comments on the lack of government support on energy bills following the budget announcement

Justina Miltienyte, energy policy expert at Uswitch.com, said: “With many suppliers going out of business this year, and bills on the rise, it’s a nervous time for households who are worried about affording their energy this winter. So it’s astonishing that the government hasn’t announced any targeted support in this Budget.

“It is not enough for the government to rely on existing grants and schemes to support the most vulnerable this winter.

“Low-income households are eligible for the £140 Warm Home Discount rebate - but it only offsets the recent £139 rise in the price cap and does not actually help to make bills more affordable.

“The Budget is a missed opportunity to reform the outdated and not fit for purpose Warm Home Discount.”
