Press release: broadband awards 2015: Virgin Media voted best provider for third year running

The results of the broadband awards – now in their fourth year – reveal what Britons really think of their broadband providers, from speeds and reliability, to customer service and support. The winners, as voted for by 3,000 consumers[1] and a judging panel of eight independent journalists[2], were announced last night at The Gherkin in London.

Virgin Media won three of the 12 awards up for grabs, beating both Plusnet and BT to take home the coveted ‘Best Broadband Provider’ gong for a third year running. Judges and consumers praised Virgin for its superfast speeds, high levels of customer satisfaction and reliable connections.

Plusnet’s 24/7 UK-based support helped the value provider to win three trophies including ‘Best Customer Service’, while TalkTalk picked up the prize for ‘Best TV Provider’ over competitors BT and Virgin Media, thanks to its competitively priced YouView offering.

Landline-free newcomer Relish scooped the judges’ award for ‘Best Broadband Innovation’, over heavyweights Virgin Media and EE, while Netflix was named ‘Best TV Streaming Service’ by the panel of experts.

Ewan Taylor-Gibson, broadband expert at, comments: “Virgin has hit upon the holy trinity of speed, cost and customer service, year after year winning over broadband users and impressing industry experts. But Plusnet is snapping at its heels with that award-winning combination of good value and top-class customer relations. Plusnet might have a smaller following than other providers, but it’s obviously a happy one.

“This is a market with plenty of room for innovation and improvement, as Relish’s award attests. The success of its landline-free broadband is recognition that the home phone is useless for so many people today.

“TV is fast-becoming one of the most hotly-contested parts of the telecoms market as consumers weigh up the pros and cons of streaming by subscription over annual packages. TalkTalk is top of the tree and its recent acquisition of Tesco’s Blinkbox shows it’s serious about staying ahead, but it has stiff competition from Netflix.”

About us

Launched in September 2000, uSwitch is an online and telephone price comparison and switching service, helping consumers get a better deal on gas, electricity, broadband, TV services, mobiles and personal finance products including mortgages, credit cards, car and home insurance. Last year we saved UK consumers over £278 million on their energy bills alone.

Customers can sign up to an account that automatically monitors the energy market and notifies them when they can move to a cheaper tariff, while broadband customers can conduct a speed test to find out how fast their broadband is and identify the best deal for their postcode.

The multi award-winning 'Switching Made Simple' app allows customers to compare energy, broadband, credit card, mobile and SIM-only deals – and uSwitch also has a UK contact centre manned by energy and broadband experts. Customers can post their latest energy bills to FREEPOST USWITCH to receive a free call back and be guided through the comparison process, or they can email with their postcode and usage details.

uSwitch is owned by ZPG, which operates some of the UK’s most trusted digital brands that help empower smarter property and household decisions including Zoopla, Money, PrimeLocation and SmartNewHomes.
