Uswitch comments on Ofgem proposals to protect against back billing
Commenting on Ofgem proposals to prohibit suppliers from back billing customers for energy used more than 12 months ago, Emma Bush, Uswitch.com energy expert, says: “This proposal will be a relief to consumers who are fed up of being stung by unexpectedly high energy bills.
“Over a quarter of households – more than seven million homes – regularly face large charges out of the blue as a result of estimated meter readings. The last thing they need is a surprise bill landing on the doormat when they thought they had paid up. Putting an end to back billing on energy used more than a year ago will help protect consumers and encourage suppliers to do more to ensure bills are accurate in the first place. We would also encourage consumers to do their part by submitting meter readings every three months.”
