Commenting on the latest figures from Energy UK that show a 14% increase in switching electricity supplier in January 2018 compared to the same time last year, Richard Neudegg, Head of Regulation at uSwitch.com, says: “After a record year for energy switching in 2017, it’s great to see that households are continuing to take charge of their energy bills.
“Switching provider can save the average household £290 and takes only ten minutes online, over the phone or through an app.
“This continued rise in people engaging with their energy provider shows the market is on the verge of a tipping point. Any market interventions by the Government must ensure that it builds on existing prompts to energy customers to find a better deal. A competitive market, rather than heavy handed regulation, is the best way to keep prices low and keep customers engaged.”
