Spark Energy has ceased trading, affecting around 290,000 customers.

Rik Smith, Uswitch.com energy expert, says: “This is the second supplier to cease trading in a week, and the largest company to exit the market to date.

“Spark Energy has nearly 300,000 customers but Ofgem regulations mean their gas and electricity supplies will continue and any credit balances will be protected.

“Households who are affected should take a meter reading and wait until Ofgem appoints a new supplier, who will then get in contact with details of its tariff. At this point, those customers will find out the price of their new deal and will be free to switch away to another supplier if they wish.”

Spark Energy customers affected by this news can find more information on Uswitch.com’s online guide.
