Samsung takes on big Apple with S4 launch

Commenting on the launch of the Samsung Galaxy S4, Ernest Doku, technology expert at Uswitch.com, says: “Taking over Times Square and unveiling its new flagship phone in the heart of New York shows that Samsung isn’t afraid to take the fight to Apple’s back yard, and rightly so. Splashing the cash on advertising and creating a buzz, Samsung struck at the core of Apple’s own hugely successful marketing strategy.

“Luckily the handset itself has more than lived up to the massive hype. Building on the success of the hugely popular S3, the fourth handset in the Galaxy range enjoys great additions including a larger 5-inch Super AMOLED display, dual camera mode featuring a 13-megapixel rear camera and a monster of a processor, while retaining the sleek, arresting looks of previous efforts.

“The S4 does have a number of other tricks up its sleeve though. The debut of nifty eye motion-sensitive controls to allow users to pause video and scroll through pages using eye movements alone is smart, and for commuters crammed in trains – or just those who love a bit of futuristic tech that makes their lives easier – this novel feature will really help the Galaxy S4 to stand out. The built in translator, which knows nine languages, is the perfect addition to holiday-makers worried about getting lost in translation, while 4G connectivity and a wealth of wireless sharing features makes the S4 bulletproof in terms of bleeding edge features.

“With brains as well as beauty, Samsung’s latest effort looks set to be the biggest handset of the year – and that’s in spite of an inevitable iPhone sequel. However, several manufacturers are trying to fan the flames of a revival, and a string of strong recent launches from BlackBerry, Sony, and HTC will give Samsung some stiff competition.

“Pricing will be final piece of the puzzle, and if Samsung can get it right, then the Galaxy S4 could take a huge bite out of the smartphone market at the end of April – the early buzz on Uswitch has been off the charts.”
