EE’S new entry-level 4G tariff is cheap but not generous on data

Commenting on the launch of EE’s new entry-level 4G pay monthly tariffs, Ernest Doku**, telecoms expert at [Uswitch.com](/mobiles/), says:** “With this new entry-level tariff EE is really attempting to remove the barriers to 4G, being the first to deliver superfast internet at a price to court the casual consumer, plus throwing in a couple of free smartphones – albeit an own-brand one in the Kestrel’s case – into the bargain.

“However, our research shows that customers still worry about maxing out their monthly data allowances. Faster browsing and streaming mean it’s very easy to burn through data on 4G. An allowance of 500MB – whilst a decent amount for an entry-level mobile user – might mean some need to switch to heftier tariffs as they reach their limits.

“Combating perks like Three offering faster mobile internet without a premium and Vodafone delivering a suite of streaming services with their upper end Red plans, EE might have a clever angle by tying mobile tariffs into discounts on their broadband and landline bundles, making in-roads to home services as well as trumping the competition on cost.

“It’ll be interesting to see whether the other networks react and start to cater for the late adopter, or continue to pitch 4G as a premium service for the tech savvy.

“Once we see both increased 4G coverage and lower costs from networks across the board, the battle could finally start to heat up.”
