Phil Glenister stars in Uswitch’s first ever broadband advert

  • Two new TV adverts launch in the New Year including Uswitch’s first broadband campaign, supported by social, YouTube and email

  • British actor Phil Glenister, best known for his role in TV series Life on Mars and Ashes to Ashes, returns to screens for both adverts.

Uswitch.com, the price comparison and switching service, is launching two new TV adverts in the New Year, including its first broadband TV advertising campaign. Both ads see the return of British actor, Phil Glenister, who featured in last year’s Uswitch energy advert.

Uswitch’s broadband advert uses Phil’s straight-talking persona to communicate the message to consumers that uSwitch makes comparing broadband deals really simple, and it’s easy to find a deal that keeps everyone in the household happy.

The ad features Phil and his family moaning about their broadband service, before illustrating the simplicity of switching and how easy it is to compare and find a better broadband deal.

Phil will also return to screens in an update to Uswitch’s long-running energy TV campaign. By debunking some of the typical myths around energy switching, the advert explains to consumers how to tackle sky-high energy bills in three simple and easy steps.

The rising cost of living remains a challenge for many people in the UK. Both campaigns are designed to continue raising consumers’ awareness of their energy and broadband bills and how easy it is to save money by switching. Both campaigns launch in the first week of January, encouraging consumers to review their household bills in the New Year.

The adverts were once again created by Thinking Juice and will be supported socially by channels such as Facebook and Twitter, as well as through email and YouTube.

Simon Hills, Head of Marketing at Uswitch.com, says: “Welcoming Phil back for both of our new TV adverts was an easy decision, following the success of last year’s energy campaign. Launching our first-ever broadband TV ad is an exciting move for Uswitch – and we hope it will match the success of our previous energy campaign.

“While consumers are getting the hang of switching some home essentials like car insurance, when it comes to broadband and energy, people are nowhere near as proactive. We are more likely to switch mortgage than move broadband supplier.

“We want to show viewers that changing provider doesn’t need to be complicated. Phil’s straight-talking approach illustrates just how easy it is to review your household bills and switch provider. We hope the new adverts will encourage consumers to review their broadband and energy tariffs, and enjoy lower bills in 2016.”

Notes to editors

Those who switched broadband provider were asked ‘in the past five years, how many times have you switched providers for the services below’ – for broadband the mean number of switches was 2, and for mortgages it was 3. All research was carried out via Opinium Research between 2nd and 5th June 2015 amongst a nationally representative sample of 2,005 UK adults aged 18+.
