Vodafone launching 5G in 19 cities this year – Uswitch comments

Commenting on the news that Vodafone is launching 5G in 19 towns and cities across the UK this year, Ernest Doku, mobiles expert at **Uswitch.com**, says:

“Vodafone is aiming to lead the way in bringing 5G to the UK with its announcement of 19 towns and cities that it will provide with this new technology this year – surpassing the 16 cities announced previously by its rival EE.

“It has long been forecast that 5G will be the next great battleground for smartphones and mobile networks, with the major handset providers already bringing 5G-ready phones to market. Vodafone appears to be ahead of the chasing pack in its infrastructure and preparedness.

“As 5G starts to be rolled out, it is important that the drive for full nationwide coverage availability is maintained. 5G does not address the current challenges which consumers face who are struggling with service – it largely means bringing faster speeds to those that can enjoy 4G today.

“Providers should be mindful of the potential to increase the country’s digital divide, if there is only a focus on places where mobile internet coverage is already strong.”
