1) Check you’re eligible to switch from SMARTY
If you’re out of contract with SMARTY, you can switch network any time you like and it won’t cost you a thing.
To find out if you’re out of contract, you’ll need to head to the SMARTY site and log in to your account.
Just log in, click on the menu icon, select 'Account settings' and the rest is easy.
2) Contact SMARTY to tell them you want to leave and get your PAC code
Your next job is to contact SMARTY to tell them you’d like to leave.
SMARTY doesn’t have a customer service telephone number to call. But you can get in touch by email and at the same time get the PAC code you’ll need to transfer your number via its website.
Once you’re logged in, click on the menu icon. Then choose Account Settings and go from there.
A PAC code is a 16-digit alphanumeric number that will enable you to transfer your number to your new network.
SMARTY will send your PAC code to you by email. By law, networks have to provide you with your PAC code within two hours of you asking for it. So you won't have long to wait.
3) Find and buy a SIM-only deal from BT Mobile
Next up, you’ll need to select a deal from BT Mobile and sign up for it through uSwitch.
BT Mobile will run some credit checks. After which point, your phone will be sent to you in the post.
4) Contact BT Mobile to give them your PAC Code
OK, it’s time to get in touch with BT and give them your PAC Code. Once you’ve done that the process of transferring your number to BT Mobile is in motion.
Get in touch with BT by calling 0800 800 150 (standard network rates apply). Opening hours are 8am-8pm Monday-Friday and 9am-6pm Saturday and Sunday.
5) Insert your BT Mobile SIM
Got a new phone from BT Mobile? Use the pin in the box to open the SIM tray and insert your new BT Mobile SIM.
If you opted for a SIM only deal, you'll just need to put the BT Mobile SIM in your existing phone.
The number transfer doesn’t happen instantly. But while it’s taking place, you’ll have a temporary number that you can use.
6) Wait for your number to be transferred to BT Mobile
BT Mobile typically completes number transfers the next day. However, it may take a bit longer, depending on how early in the day you made your request.
If there’s a weekend or Bank Holiday in the way, this may also hold up your transfer a little bit.
