Barack Obama is so attached to his BlackBerry that he is negotiating with the US Secret Service to allow him to keep hold of it, despite the potential security risk the wireless device could present.
The President-elect revealed the battle he is facing to keep hold of his BlackBerry in an interview with ABC News.
He is thought to be under pressure to give up the phone on the grounds that hackers could ransack it for sensitive information.
Mr Obama is claiming that the device is vital for keeping him in touch with his Cabinet and party members.
He told the TV network: "I'm negotiating to figure out how can I get information from outside of the 10 or 12 people who surround my office in the White House.
“Because one of the worst things I think that could happen to a President is losing touch with what people are going through day to day.”
Images of Mr Obama using his BlackBerry were prominently featured throughout his successful presidential campaign.
