Research in Motion (RIM) will endow the forthcoming BlackBerry Storm 3 smartphone with cutting edge high speed LTE network connectivity and a 1GHz processor, rumours suggest.

The Storm series has had two iterations thus far, with 2009's Storm 2 addressing some of the criticisms levelled at the original. The third in the line is now said to be upping the stakes chiefly in terms of hardware.

If the Storm 3 does have LTE connectivity it could be the first smartphone to access networks at super fast broadband speeds. A 1GHz processor will handle applications, backed up with 1GB of RAM to make it a multitasking master, according to Into Mobile.

The business focused smartphone will also have 8GB of internal storage space and a much improved touchscreen display, although at this point in time nothing has been officially confirmed.

Many will be keen to see whether the Storm 3 makes use of version 6 of the BlackBerry operating system, which RIM has been developing for many months.
