Network provider Orange has hinted that the first HTC smartphones based on the Windows Phone 7 platform could be available from its outlets in the UK in the near future.
An Orange spokesperson said in a statement: "Microsoft, HTC and Orange have had a long-standing partnership, ever since Orange UK launched the very first Windows Mobile. We anticipate working closely together in the future and more details will be available in due course."
US operator AT&T made an announcement this week it would be a launch partner for the launch stateside.
As of yet, no UK network has confirmed a release date for the first HTC Windows Phone 7 smartphone, with rumours circulating it could come in October.
HTC is not the only manufacturer working on Windows Phone 7 handsets, with LG, Samsung and Asus also in the running.
Windows Phone 7 has been the subject of much coverage and speculation over the past months and a lot is riding on its success to reinvigorate Microsoft's position in the smartphone market.
Early previews suggest that the software giant could have a winner and it seems as though the lows of Windows Mobile 6.5 will soon be forgotten.
