Sony Ericsson’s next flagship arrival in the Xperia stable, the X12 Arc, is now available for pre-order and is due to begin shipping in April.
Online retailers Play and Expansys have both put up product pages for the Arc to allow punters to start pre-ordering the hotly anticipated successor to the X10.
Play is offering the kit unlocked for a not-so-modest outlay of £460, and you’ll have to wait until April 1st at least to get your mitts on it. Expansys is also taking pre-orders, but has given no indication of a price or release date.
The Android 2.3, AKA Gingerbread-flavoured Arc was officially unveiled at this month’s Consumer Electronics Show (CES). Key features include a massive 4.2-inch “Reality display” touchscreen with Sony’s Mobile BRAVIA Engine for enhanced contrast and reduced light reflection outdoors. And as is the norm with most SE phones, there's also an eight-megapixel cam with HD video recording, LED flash and Exmor R sensor for happy snapping even in dark conditions.
Plus, there’s an HDMI port onboard so you can hook up the phone to the big screen for HD video playback.
After a somewhat lukewarm commercial reception for its efforts in 2010, particularly the Xperia X10, Sony Ericsson is looking forward to a clean slate this year by giving its full backing to Android with sleek-as-a-seal Arc and the rumoured PlayStation ‘Xperia Play’ phone, which we are codenaming the X11, for now, also expected to be unveiled in next month’s Mobile World Congress (MWC).
Stay tuned for more announcements when SE hosts its press event on the eve of the MWC on February 13th.
