Research In Motion (RIM) has announced that bird-flinging phenomenon Angry Birds will soon be making its way to the newly launched BlackBerry PlayBook tablet.
The Canadian smartphone giant revealed the news via its official BlackBerry Twitter account: “Big news just announced! Angry Birds is coming to the #BlackBerry PlayBook! #BBWC”.
Big news indeed. You know you have a legitimate challenger to the iPad when you’ve landed the perpetually irate finches on your first foray into burgeoning tablet market. With more than 100 million downloads and counting, Angry Birds is almost assuredly the biggest mobile title to have onboard your platform, which is especially important in RIM’s case considering BlackBerrys aren’t typically known for their gaming prowess.
No word yet on exactly when the gem will arrive on the BlackBerry App World, but rumours suggest that it is likely to drop in summer.
Angry Birds is also set to make its debut on Windows Phone 7 in three weeks’ time.
Meanwhile, developer Rovio has confirmed the first update to the recently released Angry Birds Rio will be available next week, bringing yet more mayhem to the tropical spin-off.
