Sony Ericsson (SE) has announced a brand new smartphone, dubbed Live with Walkman, powered by Android to challenge the iPhone/iPod once more for the portable music crown.
Unveiled today, Live with Walkman is a curved handset that comes with a dedicated Walkman button that instantly fires up the music application. It also brings ‘deep Facebook integration’ which allows users even faster access to the social network from frequently used applications such as the gallery, music player, contacts and calendar.
Elsewhere, the phone is home to a 3.2-inch capacitive touchscreen and the latest Gingerbread iteration of Google’s OS with a 1GHz processor to keep things ticking over smoothly.
Nikolaus Scheurer, Head of Product Marketing, at Sony Ericsson said: “Consumers want smartphones to deliver a rich and social entertainment experience.
“Rather than a one dimensional music experience, they want instant and seamless access to new content, combined with the ability to share and connect with their friends. The Sony Ericsson Live with Walkman™ provides exactly this, in a powerful package with great style.”
Audiophiles will have access to Sony’s Qriocity music and video content services out of the box, as well as a media discovery application that suggests new content, including recommendations from Facebook friends.
This is accompanied by what SE calls an Infinite button, pressing which within the music player brings up new content about the artist currently playing such as music videos, artist information and lyrics.
And last but not least, the handset will sport Sony’s xLOUD technology, which enhances the audio output of the on board speakers at high levels, plus TrackID support which identifies the music you’re listening to in the music player and FM radio applications.
Pricing has yet to be revealed, but judging by the specs we hardly expect it to break the bank. Sony Ericsson has confirmed that the device will be launched globally in Q4. Stay tuned for more details about its release in the months to come.
