PlayStation Store comes to Sony Xperia S

Seemingly out of nowhere, Sony has launched a mobile version of its PlayStation Store on the soon-to-arrive Xperia S smartphone.

Due to hit store shelves later this month, the Xperia S will offer users the ability to download two PlayStation apps: PlayStation Store and PS Pocket, that’ll allow them to purchase and download classic PlayStation titles that have been specially optimised for the mobile device.

The same applies to the handset’s Japanese counterpart, the Acro HD.

Once you’ve got your mitts on the phone, you can head over to Settings > Applications and tap the “Let’s start PS store” button in the app tray. You’ll then be able to download the aforesaid apps and start downloading from a relatively small selection of games currently on offer (we’re hoping more will be added when the handset has launched).

Those looking to pick up a different handset in the Xperia range will be pleased to know PlayStation certified titles will be coming to all of Sony’s 2012 phones. These include the Xperia P, U, Ion and the just-unveiled Xperia Sola.

The games download service, which was hitherto only available to PlayStation consoles and PC.
