Three added 1.04 million customers in the 12 months to the end of September to become the UK’s fastest growing mobile phone network.
The carrier’s customer base now stands at 8.8 million, after it was swollen by over 300,000 new subscriptions in the last quarter.
Its growth comes amid an extensive network upgrade to Ultrafast technology, which is delivering speeds of up to 20Mbps and which Three claims will cover over 80 per cent of the population by April 2013.
Dave Dyson, Chief Executive of Three UK, said: “We have led the adoption of smartphones in the UK by giving our customers great coverage, fast speeds and compelling price plans.
“These network improvements are designed to maintain our position as the fastest growing UK mobile operator.”
Earlier this month, Three was granted permission to buy a chunk of EE’s 1800MHz spectrum, clearing the way for Three to deploy 4G LTE technology next year.
