EE tops mobile network rankings, Three in at second

EE is the UK’s best mobile phone network, according to a country-wide study, once again beating one-time whipping boy Three into second place.

Analysts Rootmetrics awarded EE, which was the carrier to launch a super-fast 4G service, a score of 88.1 overall, making it the best performing carrier in the second half of 2013.

EE topped the rankings for network speed and in the mobile internet, call and text performance categories.

In at second overall was Three with a score of 84.3, while O2 and Vodafone were awarded 78.6 and 77.8 respectively.

Three’s strong showing comes in the wake of a marked improvement that saw it share the top spot with EE for network reliability.

The numerical network also closed the gap on EE after having sealed the overall runners-up position in the previous survey, which measured performance during the first half of 2013.

But the best news as far as consumers go, is that all four carriers posted improved results for mobile internet performance, even if EE (85.5) and Three (82.7) were streets ahead of O2 (68.1) and Vodafone (67.0) on points.

RootMetrics CEO and President Bill Moore said: “Our mobile phones have become an essential part of our everyday lives, but determining which network performs best seems to have become more difficult.

“We conducted such a large-scale study on mobile network performance to provide depth and transparency around how the networks truly perform.”

He added: “We firmly believe consumers deserve clear, unbiased, and accurate information in order to make the most informed decisions to improve their everyday mobile experience.”
