A newly leaked series of CAD images suggests that Sony’s forthcoming Xperia XZ4 will pack a unique tall screen.
The Japanese tech giant is set to offer a 6.5–inch, 21:9 aspect ratio screen. Such a widescreen setup is usually found in cinemas and enjoyed a brief appearance on LG phones a decade ago.
The same drawings also show plans to shift the speakers to the bottom of the device, while also including a side-mounted fingerprint scanner.
The latter may prove controversial, especially as rival Android makers switch to in–screen options.
Sony is set to reveal the Xperia XZ4 in early 2019, with the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas or Barcelona’s Mobile World Congress both possible locations for its launch.
Sony has a job on its hands trying to keep up with Apple, Samsung and Huawei, with its mobiles division struggling in recent years.
