1) It usually works out cheaper
Buying a handset outright and then choosing a separate SIM-only contract usually works out a lot cheaper in the long-run than getting the same phone on a traditional 24-month contract.
And although the OnePlus 5 is now available on contract, traditionally OnePlus handsets were only available on SIM-free, and are therefore affordable enough to buy outright.
The OnePlus 5 comes loaded with features to rival the latest flagships from Apple, Samsung and HTC, but it actually costs a lot less. So if you’re after a high-end phone that you can buy off-contract without breaking the bank, you won’t find better than the OnePlus 5.
2) You have more flexibility and choice
At the moment, the OnePlus 5 is only available exclusively on O2. But, if you buy the handset SIM-free, you can take your pick of thousands of SIM-only contracts, some of which start at as little as £4.50 a month.
And, if you sign up for a SIM-only deal, you can choose either a 12-month contract or even a 1-month rolling contract. So, you can switch to another SIM whenever you spot a better deal.
3) It’s your phone to do whatever you want with
Unlike getting a phone on contract, if you buy a handset SIM-free, it’s yours to do what you like with.
So, if you suddenly get a hankering for a new phone, you can just sell your current handset and buy a new one.
