The Sony Xperia Z5 Premium is the first smartphone to feature a super high-resolution 4K screen. Team that with fingerprint security to keep your data secure, a long-life battery and a fantastic camera and it all adds up to a very impressive phone indeed.
The Xperia Z5 Premium’s 4K technology is lifted directly from Sony’s high-end Bravia TVs. The result is a 5.5-inch display that offers vivid, sharp picture quality that Sony claims is four times as a full HD screen. That means your home movies you capture with the on-board 23-megapixel camera will look great when you watch them back on a 4K TV or on your phone.
At the time of writing, there isn’t much 4K content and video around. However, to get around that the Z5 is capable of upscaling HD video, so that the footage looks much crisper and almost 4K quality.
In keeping with more recent iPhones and other Android high-end smartphones, the Xperia Z5 Premium is equipped with biometric, fingerprint security to keep your personal data secure in the event of theft or accidental loss. However, unlike those phones in the Xperia Z5 Premium fingerprint reader is located in the power button on the side of the phone, which means you can turn the phone on and off and unlock it in one motion.
Disappointing battery life is a bugbear for almost all smartphone users. But it’s often especially bad on larger handsets with expansive screens. With that in mind, the Xperia Z5 is equipped with a super long-life battery that offers up to two days of battery life between charges.
And in the event that you do run low, there’s a battery stamina option to help you eke out what remains of your power. Or if you’re really desperate, there’s a fast-charge mode, which Sony claims provides you with up to 5.5 hours of battery life with just ten minutes of charging time.
Other features of the Sony Xperia Z5 Premium include a powerful Qualcomm MSM8994 Snapdragon 810 processor, the Lollipop version of Google’s Android operating system, 32GB of internal storage and the option to expand by a further 200GB by adding a microSD card.
