Motorola to announce next phone on May 13th

If you were wondering what's next for Motorola now that Google is selling it to Lenovo, the good news is that you won't have long to wait after Moto announced its next device is landing on May 13th.

An event invite from the handset-maker describes its incoming smartphone as "made to last" and "priced for all". Which hints it could be somewhere near as affordable as the wallet-friendly Moto G.

So what could it be? Have we got anything more concrete to go on? Not really. But previous reports suggest that Motorola is prepping a phone called the Moto E, which would be slightly lower specced than the Moto G and even more keenly priced.

Rumoured specs include a 4.3-inch screen, 1.2GHz dual-core chip, 1GB RAM, a 5-megapixel camera and Android KitKat.

It's also said to have only 4GB internal memory and only 3G connectivity, not 4G. Still, that didn't prevent the Moto G from being a runaway success.

Another rumour says Moto has a device called the Moto X+1 up its sleeve. As the name suggests, this would be a follow-up to the Moto X, the handset that offered unprecedented customisation options (except on these shores, of course).

The Moto X also featured advanced voice control (just say "OK Google" without having to touch it, and it responds) and an ace notifications system.

Mooted specs for the X+1 include a 5.2-inch 1080p HD display, 1.7GB of memory, 24GB internal storage and Android KitKat. If Moto can keep the price down on a handset like that, that would be quite something.

Stay tuned for more gen and we'll bring you all the news from the launch.
