Apple iPhone 17 Pro camera

The iPhone 17 Pro has three rear 48MP cameras: a 48MP Fusion Main, a 48MP Fusion Ultra Wide, and a 48MP Fusion Telephoto. These high-quality lenses combine to produce stunning photographs.

The camera system features greater 'optical quality' zoom than the iPhone 16 Pro (up to 8x) and better-quality image stabilisation technologies, which should enable closer-up zoom shots and more stable videos and snaps.

The telephoto camera’s sensor on the iPhone 17 Pro is 56% larger than that of its predecessor, the iPhone 16 Pro, resulting in sharper images in bright light and more detailed low-light shots.

There’s also a Centre Stage front-facing camera that lets you shoot in portrait or landscape without adjusting your phone's angle. For group selfies, it uses AI to expand the field of view and include everyone in the shot. You can also shoot with both the front and rear cameras simultaneously, so you can show someone something on a video call without turning your phone around.

Apple iPhone 17 Pro AI features

The iPhone 17 Pro has Apple Intelligence on board. The features are present in nearly every aspect of the phone, from composing text messages and emails to editing photos and taking notes.

It also has some more AI features courtesy of iOS 26, the latest version of Apple’s mobile operating system. These include the ability to ‘hold’ your place in a phone queue for customer services and then alert you when it’s your turn to speak. It can screen your calls, asking anyone calling from an unknown number why they are calling and using AI to decide whether to let them through.

Apple iPhone 17 vs iPhone 17 Pro: What’s the difference?

The iPhone 17 Pro features a more advanced camera and longer battery life compared to the standard iPhone 17.

The standard 17 lacks the telephoto camera and therefore cannot zoom in as close as the 17 Pro. It can’t record videos at as high a frame rate as the Pro, and its microphone has slightly lower audio quality. The iPhone 17 Pro also lasts an hour longer for video playback (33 hours versus 30).

The 17 Pro also features a more advanced processor and is available with a huge 1TB of storage (the iPhone 17 Pro Max tops out at 512GB). The two phones come in different colour options, and the Pro features a Ceramic Shield back and an aluminium unibody (rather than just an aluminium frame) for enhanced protection.

How does this compare to the iPhone 17 Pro Max?

The 17 Pro Max features the same A19 Pro chip, camera system and Ceramic Shield 2 design as the 17 Pro. But it has a larger screen (6.9 inches), longer battery life (39 hours of video playback) and up to 2TB of internal storage compared to the iPhone 17 Pro.
