Google could be about to unveil the latest incarnation of Android, according to online speculation.
Rumours that Android 2.1 is about to drop surfaced after the search giant revamped Android’s official site. This is usually a sign that an upgrade is imminent.
Google has yet to confirm a release date for the rebooted operating system and has thus far yet to reveal what new features it will bring.
However, according to fansite Android and Me, consumers can look forward to a redesigned Android Market.
Also set to feature is the option of billing for downloads through users’ carrier. Currently payment is processed through Google Checkout.
Earlier today, reports surfaced that hackers had bypassed official routes to install the updated operating system on an HTC Hero.
The French blogger who broke the story appeared in a video posted online that apparently showed the HTC phone running on 2.1 Éclair, instead of the pre-installed 1.6 Donut.
