New industry murmurings suggest that the highly anticipated Xperia X10 smartphone from Sony Ericsson might be blessed with Android 2.2 at some point in 2010.
The Xperia X10 is seen by many as a make-or-break smartphone for the troubled manufacturer, which has failed to make the impact that might have been expected with its recent offerings.
It was reported that the Xperia X10 would only come with Android 1.6 on board, which is an indication of just how long this smartphone has been in development.
However, new speculation suggests that version 2.2 might be the first platform update to hit the X10.
A Sony Ericsson spokesperson told Cnet Asia that the phone is likely to feature "an Eclair variant, so it could be 2.1 or even 2.2".
Eclair is the nickname for version 2.0 of Android and above. The Google Nexus One is one of the few smartphones to use the current flagship 2.1 version.
