O2 customers who own the Dell Streak smartphone will be getting an Android 2.1 update on the first day of September.
The smartphone-cum-tablet currently runs Android 1.6 in the UK, but the much needed Android 2.1 update is apparently just around the corner.
Android 2.2 is being prepped for launch on the Streak by the computer manufacturer Dell, but for the time being the step up to version 2.1 will be enough to satisfy users in the UK.
Among the improvements coming with the Android 2.1 update are 720p HD video capture and compatibility with live wallpapers, according to a leaked ROM obtained by The Really Mobile Project.
Multi-touch sensitivity will be added to the handset's display, which will enable intuitive interactions like the popular pinch-to-zoom and gesture recognition and of course the new range of apps on the Android Market which are only compatible with more recent versions of Android will be making an appearance.
Although the September 1st launch of Android 2.1 on the Dell Streak in the UK is not confirmed, it seems that all signs point to it as the most likely date for its arrival.
