Leak brings Android 2.1 to Dell Streak

Dell Streak users who cannot wait for an official Android update can jump the gun using some leaked firmware that apparently offers version 2.1 of the platform and comes from official sources.

The file appeared on the Mocado fan forum at the end of last week and it is claimed that the update is an official Dell build.

This suggests that the firm is well on the way to bringing Android 2.1 to the Streak via the official channels.

Several major alterations are made to the Dell Streak as a result of the upgrade, although as with all unofficial routes there is always the chance that you could corrupt your smartphone and void your warranty.

High definition video capture is enabled as part of the update, together with live wallpapers and a keyboard system that is easier to use.

The update process seems to be relatively simple, even for a DIY package, although caution is always advised when considering such an upgrade. Those who choose to sit it out and wait for Android 2.1 to officially arrive should not be left waiting for too long.
