Google Nexus 10 lands to take on iPad 4

Google has showcased a new premium tablet challenger, as it bids to repeat the success of Android powered budget slates in the top-end slates market.

Unveiled along with the LG Nexus 4 smartphone, the Google Nexus 10’s outstanding feature is a ten-inch, Gorilla Glass screen with a 300 pixels per inch density – making it the highest resolution on a tablet display so far. And naturally that includes the iPad’s Retina screen.

Priced £319 for the entry-level 16GB model and £389 for the 32GB edition (that's £80 less than the iPad), the tablet is also home to a dual-core A15 processor, 2GB of RAM and is Wi-Fi only in both iterations.

The previously unseen 4.2 Jelly Bean version of Android powers the slate and adds some new features to tablets running Google’s OS.

Perhaps chief among these is the Photo Sphere app for taking 360 degree photos with the on board five-megapixel camera and support for multiple users (for a full guide to Android 4.2, check out our coverage).
