Until 2024, many mobile networks have increased contract prices in line with inflation. Starting in January 2025, Ofcom will introduce a ban on inflation-linked price hikes for new contracts. Future price changes will need to be set and fully disclosed in pounds and pence.

How to choose the best iPhone 16 deal

Like with any Apple flagship smartphone, there is an excellent range of deals to choose from. Follow the steps below to make sure you get the right iPhone 16 deal for you.

  • Select the right amount of data

As the deals table above shows, the iPhone 16 can come with a range of data options, from 1GB a month to unlimited data.

According to Ofcom, the average person uses around 5.6GB of data per month, so bear this in mind when selecting a data package; paying for more data than you need will drive up the price significantly.

  • Upfront cost

Just like with data, there will be a range of upfront cost options when selecting an iPhone 16 deal. Generally, if you can afford to pay more upfront, the overall cost of the contract will be reduced.

However, you can also spread the cost of a contract over longer periods of time, for example, 24 months, if you want to avoid a large upfront cost.

  • Phone storage

If you are used to notifications telling you that you have run out of storage, maybe due to taking lots of videos or downloading films from Netflix, then you should opt for an iPhone model with a high amount of storage.

The iPhone 16 model has three storage options: 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB. Check how much storage you use on your current device, and remember that higher storage models will increase your contract price.

  • Pick the right model

The iPhone 16 is the entry-level model and, therefore, the cheapest. As listed above, this device has a great range of specs. However, if you want improved features like cameras and batteries, then it might be worth paying more for the iPhone 16 Pro.

What's the cheapest iPhone 16 deal?

As detailed above, the best iPhone 16 deal is always the one that best suits your needs, depending on factors such as upfront cost and monthly data allowance.

The cheapest current iPhone 16 deal on Uswitch is a fantastic offer from iD Mobile: £29.99 a month and an upfront cost of £9.00. For this you will get 10GB of monthly data, inclusive roaming in 50 destinations and three free months of Apple TV.

The cost is spread out over 24 months, bringing the total cost of the contract to £764.76, which is a great price.

iPhone 17 vs iPhone 16

At first glance, the iPhone 17 looks a lot like the iPhone 16, but there are some key updates. Both devices share the same 6.1-inch OLED display and dual-lens camera system, but the iPhone 17 now supports a smoother 120Hz ProMotion refresh rate, a feature previously limited to Pro models. It also gains faster 40W wired charging and improved battery efficiency, meaning it can recharge quicker and last longer despite only a modest bump in capacity.

The real difference comes from AI. While the iPhone 16 introduced some Apple Intelligence features, the iPhone 17 expands this with more advanced tools such as improved writing assistance, smarter photo editing and system-wide contextual help. Under the hood, the jump from the A18 to the A19 chip with 8 GB RAM makes the iPhone 17 faster and more future-proof, though the overall design remains familiar. For those who want Apple’s latest AI features and smoother performance, the iPhone 17 has the edge.

iPhone 16 design and display

Although the exterior of the iPhone 16 appears to have undergone no major changes compared to the iPhone 15, there are some notable smaller tweaks.

Like the rest of the iPhone 16 series, the standard 16 version has a new Camera Control button that operates like a camera shutter and can also focus shots.

The iPhone 16 is sticking with the 6.1-inch screen that you could find on the 15 model, which will suit customers who prefer smaller phones. This is complemented by a Super Retina XDR display that has rounded corners as part of a curved design.

Another notable change is the new design of the rear cameras. They are now stacked vertically (a design we haven't seen since the iPhone 12).

What AI features does the iPhone 16 have?

First teased in mid-2024, Apple Intelligence had us eagerly anticipating how AI would reshape the iPhone experience. Now, in 2025, the iPhone 16 delivers on that promise. With iOS 18 fully rolled out, here’s a look at the AI-powered features and smart upgrades transforming how we use our iPhones:

  • Photo Apps redesign

The Photos app gets a fresh look in iOS 18 with smart help from Apple Intelligence. You’ll be able to organise better and rearrange albums for more straightforward navigation. A new AI-powered “clean-up” feature will automatically enhance your photos with quick touch-ups.

  • Apple A18 chipset

Powered by the Apple A18 chipset, the iPhone 16 will handle desktop-class games, including many from the iPhone 15 Pro, with added graphics and physics enhancements.

Games like 'Assassin’s Creed: Shadows' will run smoothly on the iPhone 16, delivering a console-like gaming experience on mobile.

  • Siri upgrades with contextual AI

Siri gets a boost in intelligence, becoming more intuitive and aware of what you’re doing on your iPhone.

Better contextual capabilities mean you can have more natural, flowing conversations with Siri, and it will understand you even if you stumble over a few of your words.

  • Genmoji & Image Playground

These creative Apple Intelligence features will allow for interactive, animated photo editing, but they won’t be available at launch, and there is no current confirmation of when they will be released.

  • Smart Photo and Video Search

Apple Intelligence will improve its searchability through your photo and video libraries, helping you quickly navigate to specific video moments.

Once the search is complete, Apple Intelligence can create a video based on your requested moments or highlights.

Visual Intelligence & Camera Control button:

By simply holding the camera and pointing at an object, Apple’s multimodal AI will analyse the photo and provide search results or other relevant information based on what it “sees.” This can range from reviews of a clothes shop or restaurant to scanning an event flyer and adding it to your calendar.

Our expert says

“The A18 processor makes the iPhone 16 feel snappier than ever, putting it closer to the Pro models in terms of power and functionality. Combined with its solid battery life, versatile charging options, and smooth performance, the iPhone 16 offers an excellent experience for its price point.

The gap between standard and Pro models is narrower than ever, making the iPhone 16 a compelling choice in Apple’s lineup."

iPhone 16 camera

The iPhone 16 has a great 48MP main camera paired with a 12MP 2x zoom lens. These two team up to unlock amazing macro shots and spatial photography that’ll make your snaps pop in 3D—especially if you’ve got an Apple Vision Pro waiting in the wings.

Now, let's talk about a real technological advancement—Camera Control. On the side of the phone is a new camera button. Camera Control doesn’t just launch the camera; it’s flush, sleek, and covered with a sapphire crystal, giving you tactile feedback with no moving parts.

Here’s the cool part: a light tap pulls up a clean, focused preview, and with a little slide, you can adjust things like aperture and depth-of-field like a pro photographer. There are no clunky buttons, just smooth control that makes you feel like you’re holding a professional camera in your hand. Best of all? This new feature isn’t just for the Pro models! The iPhone 16 is getting this major camera glow-up across the board.

iPhone 15 vs iPhone 16: What's the difference?

Although the models' displays and designs are similar in many ways, there are key differences between Apple's latest smartphone and the iPhone 15 that are well worth flagging.

As explained above, the iPhone 16 is packed with Apple intelligence features that cannot be found on its predecessor. To support the added AI, there is more memory, a 2GB RAM increase from 6GB to 8GB. Another welcome increase is the battery size, supposedly up 6%.

There is a new camera set-up (unfortunately, only aesthetically) with a vertical camera look instead of the three-triangle bunch. The actual camera specs are the same across both devices, with a 48MP main camera and a 12MP ultra-wide camera.

iPhone 16 vs iPhone 16 Pro: What's the difference?

The first thing you will notice is the size difference between the models. The Pro has a 0.2-inch advantage in the display department, coming in with a 6.3-inch screen.

As expected, the Pro version is the most expensive in most areas. The key ones are a 5x zoom telephoto camera, a new 48MP ultra-wide camera (compared to the 16's 12MP), and titanium construction compared to aluminium construction in the standard models.

How good is the iPhone 16 battery?

After not seeing an improvement in battery life with the iPhone 15, Apple has finally given us a very welcome battery boost with the iPhone 16 lineup.

Apple doesn't release the exact battery size, so we can't say for certain how much larger it is, but we do know that video playback is now accessible for 22 hours, up from 20 with the iPhone 15.

FAQs

Can I get an iPhone 16 with no upfront cost?

Yes you can. By using the filters on the left hand side of the deals table you can select the option to only show contracts with no upfront cost.

However, this will greatly increase your monthly payments and if you can afford to pay some fees upfront you will save money overall.

Can I get the iPhone 16 with unlimited data?

Yes you can. There are a range of providers, including Three, Vodafone, O2 and iD Mobile that all over unlimited data contracts.

It is worth bearing in mind that this will drive up the cost of your contract so only go for unlimited data if you really need it.
