Virgin Media has added more classic children’s shows to its on-demand TV line-up, offering some welcome distractions for kids over the long summer break.

Virgin Media Tivo customers will now be able to view episodes of Michael Bond’s charming Paddington Bear series, as well as 1980s cartoon Inspector Gadget on demand.

The lesser-known Caillou is also now part of the on-demand service. Virgin Media has secured the rights to the first season of the show that mixes animation with puppetry and footage of children in real-life situations.

Customers will need to be signed up to Virgin Media’s M+, L or XL TV packages to watch the shows on TV, with plans to bring them to the Virgin TV Anywhere streaming service this month to allow subscribers to view them on phones, tablets, phablets and other mobile devices.

Nick Forward, Virgin Media’s TV product director, said: “We’re delighted to bring Paddington Bear, Inspector Gadget and Caillou into the homes of Virgin TV families.

“These charming and iconic shows are bound to put a smile on children and parents’ faces alike and keep everyone entertained this summer.”

Last week, Virgin Media confirmed it had secured an on-demand deal for Sesame Street.
