YouView is developing a cloud PVR that will let you access recorded programmes while out and about.

The project will be helmed by Nick Thexton, current VP and CTO for Cisco's Video Software Solutions group, who brings germane previous experience with cloud-based distribution.

Thexton will also oversee continued upgrades and improvements to the iOS and Android apps, as well as better recommendations.

He also has experience of dynamic advert insertion, which powers Sky's Adsmart service. YouView should be able to use his knowledge to allow video-on-demand services, such as ITV Player and 4oD, to target their adverts more accurately.

"We are delighted that Nick is joining as our new CTO, he brings deep knowledge of the sector as a global perspective to an already well established technology team," Richard Halton, YouView CEO, said in a statement.

"His appointment combined with the backing of all seven shareholders for another five years, with the impetus of increased investment makes this an exciting time to be part of the YouView story."

Thexton will start at YouView on November 3rd.

YouView is currently in more than 1 million UK households.
