now tv box 2015

A new Now TV Box will launch this year, Sky has confirmed. It didn't give any more details, apart from saying it will be a "next-generation" device with an upgraded user interface.

The big question is: will it finally get full HD?

Sky's subscription-free set-top box touched down back in July 2013. Its low price of £9.99 shook up the market. But a lot has happened in the last 18 months.

Amazon and EE have launched their own set-top boxes, while everyone and their dog now has their own streaming service.

Obviously, Sky wants to stay ahead of the pack.

The Now TV Box is a rebadged Roku, and it's a safe bet the new one will be too. The current model only streams in 720p HD. The new effort is expected to raise that to 1080p.

Sky is also rumoured to launch a new 4K set-top box in the spring and is said to have brought the launch forward to counter the growing threat from BT Sport.

Looks like a busy few months for the broadcaster.

Sky announced the new box in a presentation for its quarterly results.
