Netflix has bagged another exclusive, in the shape of the new Pee-wee Herman film.

'Pee-wee's Big Holiday' will air exclusively on the streaming service, after starting life at Universal Studios.

It will follow Pee-wee on his first-ever holiday, which he decides to take after a "fateful meeting with a mysterious stranger". That's all the detail we have at the moment.

Production starts in three weeks. You can follow the progress over at Pee-wee's log.

This isn't Netflix's first foray into feature films. It signed up Adam Sandler to make four films exclusively for the service.

It will also produce its own movies, the first being a sequel to 'Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon'.

Netflix has seen most success with its critically-acclaimed original series like 'House of Cards' – series three of which starts tomorrow – 'Orange is the New Black', 'Breaking Bad' and 'Better Call Saul'.

Netflix has claimed it will invest $3 billion in original content this year.

Amazon is also investing heavily in its own shows.

Recently it has commissioned series for five of its pilots, as well as a second series of 'Mozart in the Jungle' and the first show from Woody Allen.

It's is branching out into feature films, and plans to release 12 a year.
