PlayStation TV, Sony's streaming set-top box, has had a price cut. It now costs just £44.99, down from the original price of £84.99.

The device only went on sale in November, so has had its price almost halved in just four months.

The set-top box lets you stream films and TV shows from the PlayStation Store. It's designed to complement your PS4 – connect it to a TV in another room, and you can enjoy the same films and TV shows, even if the lounge is already occupied.

Sony didn't give a reason for the price cut. It said in a statement: "Starting From 27th March, PS TV will offer even greater value for money when it becomes available for only £44.99. Now with an even more accessible price, you can benefit from the advanced features and technology that PS TV brings to your home entertainment experience.

"By bringing new innovation to the home, you can have the freedom to play whenever and in which room you wish. PS TV has never been more accessible, and there has truly never been a better time to expand your PlayStation experience."

PlayStation TV also lets you stream games to it from your PS4.
