Craig Cash and Sue Johnston from 'The Royle Family' will be reunited in a new comedy for Sky 1. Called 'Rovers', it follows the supporters of football team Redbridge Rovers as they struggle in the lower leagues.

Cash stars as Pete Mott, a diehard fan, while Johnston plays Doreen, the slightly dotty club bar manager and matriarch of the Redbridge community.

Cash also directs and produces the show.

The show features Steve Speirs ('Stella', 'Extras') as Pete's mate Tel, and Seb Cardinal ('Psychobitches', 'Cardinal Burns') as Tel's love interest Mel. Diane Morgan (Philomena Cunk from Charlie Brooker's 'Weekly Wipe') plays Mandy, the club's resident vamp.

Comedians Joe Wilkinson and David Earl wrote the show, and also appear as Pete's bearded nemeses, wind-up merchants Bruce and Lee.

Cash said of the show: "It's very funny. It's got two romances and two bromances. It's just a story of a disparate bunch of crackers individuals who've not got much in common other than Redbridge Rovers, but they all get along very nicely. It's warm and full of laughs. What more do you want from half an hour?"
