the little prince

'The Little Prince' finally has a premiere date. The stop-motion animated film – based on Antoine de Saint-Expurey's 1943 novella of the same name – will air on Netflix on August 5th. That's a week today.

The book is one of the best-loved children's classics. It tells the story of a stranded pilot who meets a little golden-haired prince in a desert.

Here's a trailer.

It stars the vocal talents of Rachel McAdams, Ricky Gervais, Marion Cotillard, James Franco, Jeff Bridges, Paul Giamatti, Paul Rudd and Benicio del Toro.

However, it's not been a smooth transition from page to screen. Paramount dropped the film just a week before its scheduled US release of March 18th this year. But the story has a happy ending, as it was snapped up by Netflix.

The film adaptation differs slightly from the book. It focusses on a young girl who's being prepared for the adult world by her overbearing mother, when her life plan is interrupted by her eccentric neighbour The Aviator. He introduces her to his new friend, The Little Prince. And we go from there.
